Preface

A professor of poetry once told me that it is the details -- the things specific to you and to that one moment you are capturing -- which create the universal appeal of a poem. The more specific and complete the picture the easier it is for a reader to see themselves in it, or imagine the scene for themselves, to identify with the poet. Years later that advice has remained with me. Now, in this blog, I hope to paint word pictures for you in details that will bring to life the subject of each post. Topics will vary. Some posts will be heavy with photos (lots of eye-candy is planned), some will be lighthearted inside jokes (just between us), and all of it will be a journey we take together.

Best Friend Fibers is a venture undertaken in love. Here you will find all things fiber-y: hand-spun yarns, hand-dyed wools, knitting patterns or quilting patterns and tutorials, the occasional bit of textile history, plus posts on gardening for the farmer's market, gratuitous flower shots in season, and recipes featuring fiber-rich foods.

"The time has come, my friends," she said,
"To write of many things:
Of shots -- and sheep -- and quilting facts --
Of challenges -- and strings --
And if granola's gluten-free --
And whether figs have wings."
